Deputy Throws 1-Hitter in Season Opener

Dallas Deputies starter Bob Finney threw a 1-hit complete game shutout today in the team’s season opener against Arizona, as the Deputies kick off 2017 with a 2-0 win.

Finney was helped by a 2-out two-RBI double in the sixth inning by 3B Flavien Scarlatti. Bases were loaded when Arizona’s Nick Seer, recently ranked by the OSA as the #4 prospect in the league, served up a fastball which the switch-hitting Scarlatti drove into deep center, scoring Koichi Masuda and Chris Zahn.

Arizona’s only hit came in the first frame, when Cowboys’ C Bill Sarauer cranked a 3-2 pitch from Finney down the first base line with two outs, earning a double.

But the Cowboys failed to solve Finney for the rest of the game. Sarauer would earn a walk, along with 1B Juan Abinader, but any further offense was neutralized by Finney’s 8 strikeouts, and some great defensive plays by the Deputies.

Dallas plays Arizona again tomorrow, continuing the opening four game set.
