The see-saw has swung back to the Nevada Speeders, who once again find themselves on top of the Weekly Team Power Rankings for Week #13 in the Bull League.
The Speeders took 2 of three from Arizona to open their road trip, before crossing the country to fly to St. Petersburg where they are so far split in the first two games of a four-game set. After a flurry of trades in the beginning of July, the remainder of the month was looking quiet. But as injuries stacked up and wild card races heated up, several trades were triggered in the last week of July just before the deadline.
The action started on July 26, when the Toronto Nomads confirmed a deal with the Detroit Motorheads that sent promising prospect infielder Ronnie van der Wal – the “Flying Dutchman” – right-handed reliever Glen Talbert, and 21-year-old prospect Matt Hagopian to the Motorheads in return for slugger Brian Chambliss and infielding prospect Jose Rodriguez. The Minneapolis Ravens have a death-clutch on the top of the Weekly Team Power Rankings after 7 weeks, and do not appear to be ready to let go any time soon.

The Toronto Nomads and the Dallas Deputies agreed to terms that will see a major hole plugged in the Nomads’ infield, while seeding the Deputies with one of the league’s top pitching prospects.

Montreal Metros’ AA prospect Jorge Hernandez, who is currently playing winter ball with the Lagos Millionaires, went 5-for-5 at the plate in a 9-2 trouncing of the Cairo Pharaohs today. Hernandez, who normally plays for the Cedar Defenders, is batting .636 after today’s game, in which he doubled and had 3 RBIs.
The annual Bull League winter meetings conclude today with the Rule 5 draft. The OSA top-rated player in the pool of potential picks is Chicago’s Jon Guillot, a 22-year-old 3B currently playing at AA-level Anchorage Sky Chiefs. The Cow League season came to a close, with the last wild card spot determined on the last day in dramatic fashion. The last wild card slot was awarded to the Hillsborough Dinos (California) after they defeated the Savannah Salts (Seattle) in a make-up game yesterday.
