Tasmania got some bad news today concerning left fielder Will Fisher. He is recovering from a strained hamstring. Club doctors have extended his time of return to one week, saying his injury has not responded well to treatment. It is worse than they first diagnosed.
At the age of 32, Ed Gilliland might have some potential he hasn’t realized yet — if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Tasmania right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .455 batting average. For his efforts Gilliland collected the Australian League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 10 hits in 22 at-bats, 1 home run and 2 RBIs last week in 6 games.
Thus far this year Gilliland is hitting .259 with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
Prior to joining Tasmania in the Bull Oceanic League, Ed played for Cow League (AAA) Cayuga Poodles, affiliated with the Dallas Lawmen of the Bull League, where he hit .259 in 37 games earlier this season.
