Krohn Notches 100th Save

Calgary bullpen fixture Kevin Krohn notchd his 100th career save tonight, capping off a 3-2 win over the Miami Storm in a close game that saw two pitchers exit early with injuries.

Krohn now has 5 saves on the season, and edged his ERA down to 4.00 after throwing a flawless 9th inning in which he threw just five pitches, grounding two batters out and inducing a pop fly with a third. Continue reading “Krohn Notches 100th Save”

Krohn Out for the Year

Right-handed closer Kevin Krohn, the only bright star in the Calgary bullpen, was injured tonight and will not return this season, potentially jeopardizing Calgary’s playoff plans

Calgary Inferno closer Kevin Krohn will miss the rest of this season – along with the playoffs – after leaving a game against Anchorage on just six pitches tonight.

With his team ahead 4-3, Krohn took to the mound in the 8th inning, replacing LHP Fernando Latorre, who was solid through 7 innings, allowing the Aces just 3 runs on as many hits.  Continue reading “Krohn Out for the Year”

Inferno Hurler Matos Gone for Year

Injuries happen, but spring training injuries seem to hurt the worst. Just ask Calgary Inferno starter Rod ‘Punchy’ Matos, who learned his fate from team doctors today – radial nerve surgery would take him out for all of 2017.

Rod Matos, who was a 2016 LL All-Star with Montreal, will miss all of 2017 for Calgary with a radial nerve injury.

Matos pitched 2.1 solid innings against Norfolk this afternoon, allowing just one run on a hit and three walks, while sitting down three batters. At the time he came out of the game, he had just walked Shortstop Danny Sanchez on four straight balls, just after striking out 3B Nam-shik Kym, normally a tough out.
