Milwaukee’s Sulis Sidelined for Season

(GAME DATE — July 24, 2020) — Chris Sulis of the Hops just might have to call it quits for the season. The 26-year-old Milwaukee utility infielder received a season-ending injury against the Montreal Metros recently at Metros Ballpark. Sulis suffered a broken kneecap while running the bases. The Hops medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 4 months.

Batting .225 to date, Sulis has 3 home runs and 15 RBIs. Sulis has struggled to make contact at the plate, but shows flashes of power when he connects. Last year, he sent 14 balls over the wall. An aggressive baserunner, he has stolen 20 bases since coming up to the big league in 2017.

Hops Stymie Montreal, Take 5-0 Win

(GAME DATE — June 3, 2020) — It was a fun time at Brauhaus, where the Montreal Metros and Milwaukee Hops tangled, with Hops left-hander Brian Martin pitching his team to a 4-hit shutout win. Milwaukee has now won 3 in a row.

Davis Goes to Deputies in 1st Overall Pick

(DRAFT 2020) — The 2020 Bull League draft pre-selection has commenced and with their first overall pick the Dallas Deputies have selected Jonathan Davis, a pitcher and potential two-way player as a second baseman out of the NCAA Indiana Hoosiers.

Cruz on Fire: 5-for-6 for Milwaukee

(GAME DATE — May 27, 2020) — Milwaukee Hops center fielder Tony Cruz  wielded a big stick today against the Norfolk Sharks and his club walked off the field winners by the score of 14-7. Cruz helped tame Norfolk with 5 hits in 6 at-bats. “Dandy” Cruz singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.

To date the 33-year-old Cruz has chalked up a .325 average with 3 home runs, driven in 12 runs and scored 13 times. His 5-for-6 effort in the Norfolk series opener earned him player of the game honors. Continue reading “Cruz on Fire: 5-for-6 for Milwaukee”

5-for-5 Day for Groves

(GAME DATE — May 26 2020) — It’s not something you read about in the sports pages every day — a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career — and for Les “The General” Groves, it came around today.

2020 Preview: Lake League West

ANOTHER 100-WIN YEAR FOR RAVENS

The Ravens could break 100 wins again, though they are predicted to just hit 99.

(GAME DATE — April 1, 2020) — All indications are that the Minneapolis Ravens will storm to another strong finish this year, and could once again hit 100 wins. The official prediction is for 99, but the team is largely intact from a very successful Bull Cup appearance last season, with the addition of strong performers like Takahide Higuchi (in a trade) and Jake Pruitt (in a free agent signing).

There is a good chance that with the expected weakness Lake League East division, and the deep-pocketed team locking down their big time talent for years to come, that the Ravens could actually smash through 100 wins this year and ride that wave to the Bull Cup again.
