Longer Season Prompts Broken Records

As was predicted at the beginning of the baseball season, the longer 100-game schedule has produced record-breaking performances that in some cases took down player records that were decades old.

Most notably to fall was the long-standing record for single-season hits, which was established in 1995 when Chuck Provost had 147 over an 80-game year (though he played in just 78 games), the same season he set the batting average record of .444. Kitigawa Breaks Hits Record

Anchorage Aces CF Katai Kitigawa set a new single-season record for hits this season, with 150.

Japanese baseball star, and 2017 AEL All-Star, Katai Kitigawa, who plays center field for the Anchorage Aces, has smashed the single-season record for hits on the last day of the season, after a 1st inning single against the Arizona Cowboys tonight, marking hit #148.

Sanchez Collects Hit Number 1000

Erazo Collects Hit Number 1500

Francisco Erazo of the Kingston Cannons earned his membership in the exclusive 1500-hit club this afternoon at Cannon Field. The 38-year-old second baseman got his milestone hit in the Cannons 6-3 triumph over the Toronto Nomads. Erazo went 3-for-4 for the game.

Lifetime Erazo is hitting .309 with 336 doubles, 17 triples, 240 home runs, 842 RBIs and 978 runs scored. He has appeared in 1386 games to date and delivered 1500 hits. Continue reading “Erazo Collects Hit Number 1500”
