LL Division Leaders Look Set, But Wild Cards Not Carved in Stone

(GAME DATE — Sept. 5, 2020) — As the days wind down until the end of the 2020 schedule it looks more and more certain that the Boston Brawlers (84-55) and the Minneapolis Ravens (85-54) will seal playoff spots as the division champs for the LL East and LL West respectively.

But the wild cards are less certain, even as the Toronto Nomads have put up an incredible effort to work their way into the first wild card spot after a dire six weeks to the season. Until the Nomads took 3 of 4 from California in a set that began May 16, they had sunk to 13-28 and were in 5th place by then. 2020 Preview: Lake League West

The Ravens could break 100 wins again, though they are predicted to just hit 99.

(GAME DATE — April 1, 2020) — All indications are that the Minneapolis Ravens will storm to another strong finish this year, and could once again hit 100 wins. The official prediction is for 99, but the team is largely intact from a very successful Bull Cup appearance last season, with the addition of strong performers like Takahide Higuchi (in a trade) and Jake Pruitt (in a free agent signing).

There is a good chance that with the expected weakness Lake League East division, and the deep-pocketed team locking down their big time talent for years to come, that the Ravens could actually smash through 100 wins this year and ride that wave to the Bull Cup again.

2020 Preview: Lake League East

Boston is predicted to claim the LL East pennant handily in 2020.

(GAME DATE – April 1, 2020) — It’s no April Fool’s joke. Boston is our prediction to lead the Lake League East Division at the conclusion of the 2020 Championship Season. Last year’s division winners New York are predicted to come in 3rd, but realistically could bump Pittsburgh out of their 2nd place spot and secure a wild card spot at the end of the year.

The Brawlers have had a busy off-season making some important roster moves after posting their first sub-.500 season since 2012 last year. Their 80-82 finish was 14 games behind the NY Dragons, and they were 8 games behind the offensively deficient Toronto Nomads.

Their previous best finish was in 2017, when they ended up 45-55 (.450). Continue reading “Hops Hope for First Playoff in Long Shot Wildcard Race”

MacPherson Named MVP in High Scoring All-Star Match

St. Pete’s ace Jose Soto was the AEL’s starting pitcher for the All-Star Game

Norfolk Sharks catcher Earl MacPherson was named the game MVP, and first-time selection Nick Rangel of the California Tidals got the win, in a high-scoring All-Star contest between the visiting Lake League and the hosting American Eagle League tonight in Calgary.

The AEL side, which were the hosts this year, won the game 12-10, as some of the top pitchers in both leagues were rung up for plenty of hits, and fans were treated to some incredible baseball. Continue reading “MacPherson Named MVP in High Scoring All-Star Match”
