For fans of the Montreal Metros, there was certainly no doubting the value of Yoshiaki Fujimura this season.
Now the 34-year-old pitcher has an award to show just how valuable he was, as he’s been named the 2016 Lake League Most Valuable Player Award winner. Only a day before, he had also won the LL Sandy Koufax Award – only the 6th time in Lake League history the same player has won both the MVP and the Sandy Koufax Award.
His remarkable campaign saw him put up a 13-2 record. In 17 starts he piled up 125.1 innings, had 112 strikeouts with 26 walks and a 2.30 ERA. Fujimura held opposing hitters to a .224 batting average and compiled a 4.1 WAR.
