The Florida Rookie League (FRL) has wrapped up it’s inaugural season, and though all teams move on to the abbreviated playoffs, it has been a great experience for all of the clubs, according to GMs.
The Winter Rookie League-level FRL was created during the winter meetings late last year, as a way of getting younger baseball prospects and recent draft signings into the swing of things prior to the big league spring training start.
The Pitcher of the Month and the Batter of the Month in the Florida Rookie League (FRL) have been announced for February, and one of them comes as no surprise to anyone watching the up and comers from the Sunshine state.
Justin Cusimano (1B, New York) has once again captured the Batter of the Month honors, making two months in a row for the young future star. Ohio Oxen B have reclaimed the top slot in the Weekly Team Power Rankings for the Florida Rookie League (FRL) this week, edging out their Altantic Coast Division rivals, the New York Minutemen B. Ohio has been hitting well, taking their series against Dallas Lawmen B 2-1, and outscoring Toronto Nomads B 8-1 on the 21st to avoid a sweep. They are currently 3rd in the FRL in runs scored (163) and 2nd in home runs (30), led largely on the efforts of Nate Warner (DH) who is hitting an impressive .296 with 9 home runs and 27 RBIs. Justin Cusimano really sizzled at the plate in today’s 17-0 win over (Jupiter) Boston Brawlers B. The (West Palm Beach) New York Minutemen B first baseman blistered Jupiter for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
