Defending Champs, Admirals, Clinch Division Again

(GAME DATE — Sep. 19, 2020) — The defending Bull Cup champions, the St. Petersburg Admirals, have clinched their third straight division title since moving into the East division of the Metro League (formerly the American Eagle League), securing a fifth straight playoff appearance.

Early Look at MVP, Sandy Koufax and Other Awards Candidates

(GAME DATE — May 27, 2020) — As we move towards a third of the way through the 2020 season, we begin to see an early picture forming of who the top players in the LL and ML are, and we can offer predictions about who may be holding that hardware at the end of the year.

Injuries have already taken some pieces off of the chess board, meaning a four-peat for Admirals ace Jose Soto as ML Sandy Koufax Award winner is unlikely, and Montreal’s Jose Ramirez will not likely accumulate the numbers required for a Carl Simms MVP Award this year. Jose Soto Lost for Season

(GAME DATE — May 12, 2020) —  Doctors in St. Petersburg said Jose Soto might not play anymore this year. The Admirals starting pitcher suffered a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament during a game against the Seattle Salts and will be out for at least 10 months. Club officials told BNN they do not expect him to return to the team this season.

To date this season Soto sports a 5-2 record with a 1.65 ERA in 8 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .201 batting average and has 72 strikeouts in 54.2 innings. Continue reading “Jose Soto Lost for Season”

Admirals Clinch Playoff Berth, Take ML East Pennant

(GAME DATE – Sept. 16, 2019) — The St. Petersburg Admirals, led by the veteran GM/manager, Brandon Popper, have clinched the Metro League East pennant, and are the first team to secure a playoff spot in the 2019 season.

The Admirals will now see their 4th consecutive playoff, and their 6th since 1995, in what many observers are calling a new era of dominance for the club, once based in San Diego, and later Anchorage.
