Captain Bats Celebrates 51st Birthday

Hall of Famer Barry “Captain” Bats, who wore #6 for the Richmond Ravens, New York Minutemen, and other teams, is celebrating his 51st birthday today.

Burke Named AEL’s Best Skipper for 2017

Brendan Burke was a rookie GM and manager of the Jacksonville Ravens when he was taken on prior to the opening of the 2017 season, but the Ravens fans and ownership were glad they found him.

Burke was named AEL Manager of the Year after a fantastic 57-43 finish that included a 14th playoff appearance for the team, one that saw them meet the ultimately successful Calgary Inferno in the AEL Championship Series. Continue reading “Burke Named AEL’s Best Skipper for 2017”

Blaze Player Quits, Will Play Soccer

Jose Medellin, who was a long time outfielder in the Jacksonville and Chicago organizations, has thrown in the towel and retired from professional baseball. The Texas native will play midfield for Los Angeles’ pro soccer team.

The announcement comes after a disappointing 2017 for Medellin, which saw him split time between North Tonawanda Blaze (Short Season A) and the Tucson Rattlers (Single A). Continue reading “Blaze Player Quits, Will Play Soccer”

Players File Notices for Free Agency, Arbitration

It’s that time of the year again, as the Bull League players notify their teams of their intentions to file for free agency, and pass along their arbitration demands.

Inferno Sweep Aside Ravens

The AEL Championship Series wrapped up in short order, with the Calgary Inferno sweeping the Jacksonville Ravens, 3-0.

3B Israel Medina won series MVP

AEL Postseason Set to Go

The American Eagle League postseason is set to kick off tomorrow, just one day after the Lake League’s playoffs get underway.

The Seattle Salts (63-37), who swept into 1st in the AEL West with a 21-7 run through August, take the top seed and will play the wild card Jacksonville Ravens (57-43), who finished in 2nd in the AEL East.  Continue reading “AEL Postseason Set to Go”
