Draftee Rivera Out Ten Months

Milton Meteors starter Edwin Rivera, drafted in the 10th round just this past June by the Ohio Oxen, will miss ten months after tearing a rotator cuff while pitching yesterday.

The 21-year-old from Mexico has had a circuitous route to his present posting at the Ohio Short Season A affiliate. He was originally signed out of Mexico by Battle Creek in 2011, before being released in 2013. In April of this year, he was set to join the Bull Oceanic League’s Sydney Sailors as a free agent, but with news the league was going to fold or evolve, went into the 2017 first year player draft as a BOL free agent. Stunned Ravens Lose Kremer for Season

Jacksonville Ravens took one on the chin today when they learned star closer Nate Kremer will miss the rest of this season, and all of next year.

Kremer had come in for an inning in relief after Tomas Maldonado pitched 8.0 great innings against the Dallas Deputies this afternoon in front of a full stadium in Jacksonville. Then, with Jacksonville ahead 3-2 in the top of the 9th, Kremer allowed a game tying run in what was otherwise a stellar appearance, with two strikeouts. Injuries Take out Walker, Nelson

Seattle Salts veteran Jesse Nelson has had to call it a season early. The 39-year-old 2B-man was injured on a collision at second base. Ironically, Nelson was the base runner and not the fielder, however.

Nelson had just hit safely to lead off the 4th inning in today’s game against California, when DH Hermengildo Nel grounded into a fielder’s choice to Tidals pitcher Yeong-suk Yi.  Yi played the ball to Yong-jun Jahng, who corralled the toss and tagged Nelson out. Cow League First Half Update

The books are closed on the first half of the AAA-level Cow League’s 2017 regular season, capped off by an exciting All-Star Game, the first-ever such contest for that minor league.

So far, the Portland Timberwolves (Montreal Metros) hold a commanding edge in the Frontier League with a 30-14 record, while the Hillsborough Dinos (California Tidals) are in 1st overall in the newly-formed Atlantic Coast League (which replaced the North-East League), at 28-16. Janmaat Out For Season?

The Jacksonville Ravens and their fans were rocked today by the news that star first baseman Barry “Hulk” Janmaat would miss the rest of the season due to injury. Janmaat was hurt in a recent game against the Seattle Salts while running the bases. He was immediately removed from the game and taken for examination. Tests today revealed the injury was a ruptured medial collateral ligament. His doctors think that Janmaat will miss about 10 months. Continue reading “Janmaat Out For Season?”

Cow League May Roundup

The books have closed on the first month of play in the Cow League, and all teams have completed their first 11 games of an 82-game schedule. So far, some clear early leaders and laggers have emerged, such as the hot-hitting Hillsborough Dinos (California) and Gatineau Devil Bears (Battle Creek), both of whom are leading their respective leagues with 8-3 records, and the struggling Halifax Gunboats (Calgary), who are win-less at 0-11.
