Kimura Out For Year with Blown Achilles

The Louisville Sluggers had been assembling a dangerous team this past off-season, and looked poised to be ahead of the pack come the 2018 playoffs. But all of that has been cast into some doubt when it was learned that first baseman Setsuo Kimura would miss the entire year with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Injuries Dog Teams in First Week of Spring

Spring Training has begun in the Bull League, and already there are several notable injuries that will have teams scrambling to make adjustments as Opening Day approaches.

Baseball’s annual warm-up ritual started on April 1, and by the end of the second day the New York Dragons learned that promising rotation piece Fred Loveless would miss the season. The 28-year-old right-hander, who was 7-4 last year with a 2.09 ERA, and was named Pitcher of the Month for June last season, tore a ligament in the 2nd inning of their April 2 game against Boston. AEL Postseason Set to Go

The American Eagle League postseason is set to kick off tomorrow, just one day after the Lake League’s playoffs get underway.

The Seattle Salts (63-37), who swept into 1st in the AEL West with a 21-7 run through August, take the top seed and will play the wild card Jacksonville Ravens (57-43), who finished in 2nd in the AEL East.  Continue reading “AEL Postseason Set to Go”

Judson Martel Sidelined for Season

Doctors in Montreal said Judson Martel might not play anymore this year. The Metros starting pitcher suffered a stretched elbow ligament during a game against the Rimouski Fighting Moose and will be out for at least 9 months. Club officials told BNN they do not expect him to return to the team this season.

This year Martel has recorded a 11-1 mark. In 16 starts he has fanned 159 batters in 126 innings with a 1.36 ERA. He was leading the Lake League in ERA and strikeouts, along with shutouts. Draftee Rivera Out Ten Months

Milton Meteors starter Edwin Rivera, drafted in the 10th round just this past June by the Ohio Oxen, will miss ten months after tearing a rotator cuff while pitching yesterday.

The 21-year-old from Mexico has had a circuitous route to his present posting at the Ohio Short Season A affiliate. He was originally signed out of Mexico by Battle Creek in 2011, before being released in 2013. In April of this year, he was set to join the Bull Oceanic League’s Sydney Sailors as a free agent, but with news the league was going to fold or evolve, went into the 2017 first year player draft as a BOL free agent.
