FRL Week #3: Sluggers Maintain Control

The Clearwater Sluggers are maintaining their stranglehold on the Florida Rookie League after three weeks, topping the weekly team power rankings with 152.1 points. The Miami Motorheads have been unable to close the gap, sitting at second with 135.6 points.

Florida Rookie League Gets Underway

The Florida Rookie League has kicked off across the sunshine state, and Bull League rookies are working off the off-season rust as their clubs’ older pros compete for roster spots at the top level in Spring Training nearby.

The FRL, which began last year as a winter league, was shifted to a spring-to-summer format schedule for 2018, and will play an 84-game schedule in a split season format this year. Continue reading “Florida Rookie League Gets Underway”

Chicoutimi Cinquantes Rookies Win FRL Championships

The inaugural season of the Florida Rookie League, the winter rookie level developmental league for the Bull League, has come to a close, and the first champions are the Miami-based Chicoutimi Cinquantes B team.

The final showdown to name the championship team saw the Cinq’s rookies face off against the Fort Myers Dallas Lawmen B, the FRL affiliate to the Dallas Deputies (which was formerly the Dallas Lawmen). Continue reading “Chicoutimi Cinquantes Rookies Win FRL Championships”

FRL Regular Season Wraps Up

The Florida Rookie League (FRL) has wrapped up it’s inaugural season, and though all teams move on to the abbreviated playoffs, it has been a great experience for all of the clubs, according to GMs.

The Winter Rookie League-level FRL was created during the winter meetings late last year, as a way of getting younger baseball prospects and recent draft signings into the swing of things prior to the big league spring training start.

FRL Weekly Team Power Rankings, Week #9

New York Minutemen B reclaim the top perch in the FRL weekly power rankings, despite being one game behind division leaders, the Ohio Oxen B. The Minutemen rookies had a great week, including a complete game one-hitter pitched by 22-year-old starting right-hander Hikoo Inoue. Also, phenom first baseman Justin Cusimano knocked in another three homers to bring his league-leading season total to 23.
