FRL Weekly Team Power Rankings, Week #7

Key Largo’s Ohio Oxen B rookie team has maintained their perch atop the FRL’s weekly team “power rankings” for a second straight week, and by a margin. West Palm’s New York Minutemen B team slid down in the rankings due to a rough week, in which they took a 5-3 loss against Lakeland’s Seattle Salts last Friday in which they gave up 4 runs in the first inning.

Ohio and New York had been matching each other at the top of the Atlantic Coast Division standings but finally Ohio broke ahead by half a game this week. Continue reading “FRL Weekly Team Power Rankings, Week #7”

Tasmania Player Name Star of the Week in AUSL

At the age of 32, Ed Gilliland might have some potential he hasn’t realized yet — if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Tasmania right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .455 batting average. For his efforts Gilliland collected the Australian League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 10 hits in 22 at-bats, 1 home run and 2 RBIs last week in 6 games.

Thus far this year Gilliland is hitting .259 with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Prior to joining Tasmania in the Bull Oceanic League, Ed played for Cow League (AAA) Cayuga Poodles, affiliated with the Dallas Lawmen of the Bull League, where he hit .259 in 37 games earlier this season.

Dallas, Kingston Agree to Swap

The Dallas Lawmen and Kingston Cannons have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. Dallas will part with 27-year-old 2B Elias Huerta and $1,280,000 in cash, while the Cannons have dealt 22-year-old minor league SS Jose Astudillo and 18-year-old minor league RHP Gary Littlewood. “This one took a while to figure out,” said the Dallas general manager. “We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I’m glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs.”

Huerta has a .237 career batting average and has hit a total of 10 home runs.
