Miami’s de Soto Reaches Milestone 1500th Hit

It was a special night for Miami Storm third baseman Xavier de Soto, despite his team suffering a close 7-6 loss to the Norfolk Sharks. The 34-year-old veteran became the latest player to reach 1500 career base hits, only the 8th player in Bull League history to achieve the milestone.

De Soto went 2-for-5, starting the first inning off with a double for hit #1499, just after Antonio Nieves’ solo shot to left cut the Norfolk lead to 2-1. He would later score the tying run. Continue reading “Miami’s de Soto Reaches Milestone 1500th Hit”

Longer Season Prompts Broken Records

As was predicted at the beginning of the baseball season, the longer 100-game schedule has produced record-breaking performances that in some cases took down player records that were decades old.

Most notably to fall was the long-standing record for single-season hits, which was established in 1995 when Chuck Provost had 147 over an 80-game year (though he played in just 78 games), the same season he set the batting average record of .444.
