Playoffs Start for CAN-AM’s 2nd Season

The second season of the Can-Am College League has entered the playoffs, using their new best-of-seven format and no designated-hitter rule for the first time.

Among the match-ups are some of the new teams added for the 2018 season, but conspicuously absent are last year’s champions, Freeport University, which left the league, and the 2017 runner-up, Assiniboine University, which failed to qualify. CAN-AM Week #1 – Everglades, Richelieu Split the Lead

The first week’s power rankings are out for the Can-Am College League, and the top teams splitting the lead, both with 148.0 points, are Collège Cardinal Richelieu Monarchistes (DIV A, Canada Conference) and the Everglades U Swampmen (DIV B, Southern Conference), with both teams 4-1 after five games.

Just how long these teams will retain their positions is up for debate, however. There is a large field of strong teams in all divisions, notably Essex Tech Bullfrogs, with 8 homers (twice that of Richelieu, and leading the Can-Am league), and Danbury Central College Bobcats, with a Can-Am League-leading 37 runs (tied with RMA Sandhurst Blues and Reds and Army Black Knights). Summer College Tournament Launched

The Bull League has launched a Summer College Tournament, an international event that will bring together the very best college and high school players from eight countries around the world. The inaugural tournament will run in August, and include teams from Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States.

The tournament will become a regular feature of the Bull League schedule, and in future years will run shortly after the Bull League amateur player draft in June. Continue reading “Summer College Tournament Launched”
