FRL Week #4: Admirals and Ravens Chase Down Sluggers

The Clearwater Sluggers have maintained their clutch on the top spot in the Florida Rookie League weekly team rankings once again, but the Naples Admirals and Jacksonville Beach Ravens have made impressive strides to catch up.

Nomads Deal Avila to California

The rebuilding California Tidals have executed yet another trade this off-season, sending 28-year-old catcher Mike Krenz to the Toronto Nomads in exchange for right-handed bullpen arm Juan Avila.

The 26-year-old Avila is seen as a good fit for the rebuilding Tidals, after a great season in the Nomads bullpen in 2017, in which he went 3-1 with a pair of saves, and held an ERA of just 1.21 over 22.1 innings. Continue reading “Nomads Deal Avila to California”

Rimouski Acquires Febres in Huge Trade

The Detroit Motorheads only signed him in November, but 2017’s strikeout king William Febres is going moving back to the Lake League East to play for the Rimouski Fighting Moose.

Febres played for the New York Dragons last season, and racked up a league-leading 188 K’s in 118.1 innings, though his record was a forgettable 4-8 and his ERA just a slightly better than league average 3.18. Continue reading “Rimouski Acquires Febres in Huge Trade”

Tidals Deal Chinchilla to Montreal for Moles

The California Tidals have come to terms with the Montreal Metros on a trade deal that will see veteran 1B David Chinchilla go to Montreal in return for outfielder John Moles and RF Naoaki Sato.

The move equips Montreal with a veteran power bat for the lineup, as Chinchilla will likely slot in the cleanup spot in the order after the departure of 3B Hoshi Mizuguchi to free agency created a gap to fill. Continue reading “Tidals Deal Chinchilla to Montreal for Moles”

Tidals Fire Sale Continues, Dan Gore Sent to Moose

California Tidals were involved in another trade, just a day after wrapping up a deal with Dallas that saw them lose starter Bob Oliver.
