LF Brian Currell (DEN), who was July’s AEL Rookie of the Month, was selected Player of the Week for Aug. 8-14

Last week, 24-year-old Brian Currell sent shock waves through Bull Baseball League with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American Eagle League Player of the Week Award for August 8-14.

A newcomer to the league, Currell made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .607 average, 17 hits in 28 at-bats and 4 RBI.

Where the Denver Highlanders left fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Currell certainly made his mark last week. Thanks partly to his efforts, Denver has a convincing hold on 1st place in the AEL East with a best-in-the-AEL 39-25 (.609) record, 4½ games ahead of the Jacksonville Ravens, and are virtually guaranteed a playoff spot.

This season Currell, who was also Rookie of the Month for July, has 3 home runs, a career-high 35 RBIs, and a .333 batting average.

AEL Star of the Week Honored

Glen Reese has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 23-year-old left fielder of the Denver Highlanders had a pretty hot bat in the American Eagle League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Reese batted .483 with 14 hits in 29 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.

For the season Reese has produced 81 hits in 206 at-bats for a .393 average with 14 home runs and gotten on base at a .452 clip.
