Last AEL Player Awards Announced

(Game date: Oct. 7, 2018) — The final season for the American Eagle League, which will be renamed for 2019 as the Metropolitan League, has come to a close. The last official act for the league was the issue its 2018 season player awards, which were announced today.

Taking home the 2018 AEL Carl Simms MVP Award as the most valuable player during the year was dominant Norfolk Sharks catcher Earl MacPherson.

AEL Woodchuck Trophy Awarded

Nate Weil said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he’s only 26 years old.

But he’ll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Dallas Lawmen rising star has won the American Eagle League Woodchuck Trophy for 2016.

The Woodchuck Trophy is awarded to the top relief pitcher in each of the leagues within the Bull League.

Weil captured the award on the strength of his 1.58 ERA over 40 innings. He also had 16 saves in 32 relief appearances, 50 strikeouts and only 18 walks.

Jon Courteau of the San Diego Seagulls finished second in voting, while Mitchell Nicols of the Nevada Speeders finished third.
