The Brampton Longhorns have defeated the Oakland Dukes to win their second Cow League Cup, after winning the fourth game of a best-of-five final 4-1.
It was the third appearance in the AAA-level playoff finals for both teams.
The series finished in dramatic fashion, which Luis Fernandez securing the win for the Longhorns, after pitching 6.1 IP and only allowing one run. Danny Gutierrez was awarded the save, his 5th of the postseason.
It was sweet vindication for Gutierrez, who blew the save in the opening game against Oakland, allowing a walk-off victory in the bottom of the 10th as Brampton opened the series behind Oakland 1-0. But the Horns fought back to take the next three, including a 9-4 romp in game 2, and a 5-0 gem thrown my Matt Miller, who struck out 10 batters on a 6-hit victory.
The Nomads hope many of the victorious Longhorns players will be primed and ready for the big show next season, after the parent club closed 2017 with a disappointing 5th place finish.
