(GAME DATE – Oct. 13, 2019) — The Ohio Oxen have fallen to the Minneapolis Ravens in the LLCS, dropping Game 5 in a nailbiting 13-11 finish in Cincinnati.
Though the Oxen narrowly avoided a sweep when they took the first home game of the series, Game 3, by a score of 7-5, they were unable to withstand the barrage of runs the Ravens threw at them.
The final game was loaded with emotion and excitement, however. The Oxen took the early lead, 3-0, before the Ravens clawed back to tie, then pull ahead 4-3, in the 5th inning. But a Corny Maise 3-run homer in the 7th inning added to one more run that gave Ohio a 7-4 lead. But in a dramatic turn in the 8th, Chris Soundgarden blew a tire and let Evandro Cerigo bash a Grand Slam to put the Ravens ahead by a run.
A pitching change brought in closer Marty Melvins to stop the bleeding, but even he allowed Minneapolis to add 3 more to the total, making it a depressing 11-7 game for the Ravens going into the bottom of the 9th. The Oxen answered with 4 runs of their own, including a 2-run double from Garth Goyle, that tied the game.
Logans Run would knock in a 2-RBI double in the top of the 10th, which were unanswered in the bottom half, closing the books on the Ohio Oxen 2019 season and allowing the Ravens to advance to the Bull Cup Championships.
