The Toronto Nomads have completed a 4-game sweep of the Chicago Pit Bulls in their season opener series at home, with a convincing 3-1 win.
The Nomads failed to sweep any 4-game series all last season, and were expected by many to just tread water with a .500 record this season.
But the team’s hot 4-0 start, which included a 3-hit shutout on Monday, in Knuckles Malone’s first outing, and a 15-inning battle of determination that saw them win 5-4 yesterday, has some wondering if the team has been underestimated for 2018.
Victor Sarmiento, the Nomads main slugger, remains on the DL after suffering a fractured fibula on opening day. Speedy outfielder Hector Cepeda is not due back for more than a week.
The team has had to make adjustments as a result, but it helps that they are getting big hits and run production from regular faces like Joseph Walker, Adam Russillo, and Miguel Tafoya, who hit an RBI double tonight.
The Nomads continue their home stand tomorrow as the Louisville Sluggers roll into town for a 4-game set. They then have a day off before going to Detroit on the 22nd.
