Newcastle Takes Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair

The Newcastle Nuclears moved to within one game of the Oceanic Cup today, downing the Melbourne Dockers on the road at Ballpark of Chula Vista by a score of 3-1. Nuclears right-hander Edwin Teller was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Nuclears a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 BOL League Championships.

The Nuclears beat the Dockers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Thomas Ebeling produced in the top of the fourth. Batting against Melbourne pitcher Oscar Cruz, Ebeling gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run. Regular season batting title winner Les ‘The General’ Groves also homered for Newcastle.

Teller called the win the result of “everyone being in sync.”

The next game is set to be played on Saturday, December 24th, 2016 at Ballpark of Chula Vista. Slated to start are Rico Fermi for Newcastle and Miguel Melendez for Melbourne.

Timely home runs put the Nuclears in the driver’s seat in their League Championship series against Melbourne today. Newcastle leads the series 2-1.
