Inferno Tie Metros, Ramirez Out

The Calgary Inferno have tied the Bull Cup series against the Montreal Metros 1-1, and what could be a bad turn of events for the Metros, 2017 LL batting champion Jose Ramirez bruised his hand and will not play for a week.

As the series moves to game 3, this means Ramirez’ postseason now comes to an early end.

The trouble for Ramirez came early in Game 2, when the left fielder tracked down an Israel Medina fly ball in the bottom of the 2nd inning, crashing into the outfield wall as he snagged it for an out. The play left him with a hand contusion, and he was replaced by Damian Auty.

Ramirez was hitting just .167 against Calgary in the first two games of the series. In 10 total postseason games he was 10-for-39, with three homers and a pair of doubles, below expectations for him but still contributing to the team’s playoff success so far.

Calgary went on to win Game 2, 5-1, evening up the series.

Auty is likely to remain in the left field position through the rest of the series. He was a solid filler in the utility outfield role, starting 13 games at left and five at right during the regular season without allowing an error all year. He contributed at the plate, too, batting .333 (41-for-123) with 16 runs and 17 RBI.
