Montreal’s Yoshiaki Fujimura breezed through the Detroit Motorheads lineup today, collecting a 4-hit shutout and a 5-0 victory along the way. Fujimura fanned 8 as well. It was the 10th shutout by Montreal pitchers this season, putting them at the top of the shutout leaderboard this season, ahead of Toronto and Seattle, both tied with 9.
“I didn’t really feel like I had my game today,” Fujimura confessed, “but some days are like that — you just gotta go with what you have.”
This year Fujimura has compiled a 5-4 record with a 2.91 ERA. This was his first shutout of 2017, and only the fourth of his career. His last came in 2009 when he played for the Seattle Salts.
Meanwhile, Metros ace Judson Martel remains with the team lead – and also the Lake League lead – for shutouts, at 4, which is twice his previous career high. Together, Montreal starters have combined to pitch seven of the team’s 10 shutouts, with the remaining three coming on team efforts that included the bullpen. The other two Metros with complete game shutouts this season are Danny Tirado and Tom Haviland.
