Cowboys Sign Josh Lander as GM

The embattled Arizona Cowboys appear to be looking to the near future with some confidence after signing Josh Lander to a five-year deal as their new general manager.

The move comes a few days after firing Matt Johnson, who had been with the club for the previous four seasons.

Lander has a lengthy record of success, including two back-to-back Bull Cup championships with the Chicoutimi Cinquantes, in 2004 and 2005, and a string of playoff appearances as the GM of the Jacksonville Ravens until last season.

The Lake City, Iowa, native is considered a top-tier baseball executive, who got his start turning the California Tidals into a perennial success from 1998 until 2002.
