Reliever Joe Niceley has come to terms with the Nevada Speeders, and will report to the team for Spring Training after signing a 3-year, $24.5 million contract, it was announced today.
The former Montreal Metros closer was the 2016 Woodchuck Trophy winner for the Lake League in his first season with the team, and followed up with a second great year in 2017.
In two seasons in the Lake League, he was 8-9 with a 2.20 ERA and 40 saves, playing in 79 games and tallying 94.0 innings. He struck out hitters at a rate of nearly 10 batters per 9 innings.
In his career, which began with six seasons with the California Tidals, he is 23-26, with a 3.26 ERA, 126 saves, and 268 K’s in 273.1 innings, with two Bull Cup championship rings to boast of.
