Christians Even With Hammers After Home Win

The Christchurch Christians and the Hamilton Hammers will take the BOL League Championships to a decisive 5th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Christians shut out the Hammers 5-0 at Plano Fields to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Christchurch left-hander Mamadou Lopes was named player of the game in the win after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings of shutout ball.

Marcos Gonzalez was a key contributor to the win for the Christians. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, the light-hitting shortstop stroked a double to left. He was 2-4 with a double, while adding 3 RBI.

Gonzalez called the win “a collective effort.”

The next game is set to be played on Christmas Day — Sunday, December 25th, 2016 at Ballpark of Yonkers, in Hamilton. The scheduled starters for the game are Inaki-Luki Aulii for the Christians and Yasushi Matsuoka for the Hammers.

The Crusaders from Christchurch shutout the Hammers 5-0 to even the NZL championship series.
