Captain Bats Celebrates 51st Birthday

Hall of Famer Barry “Captain” Bats, who wore #6 for the Richmond Ravens, New York Minutemen, and other teams, is celebrating his 51st birthday today.

Captain Bats mainly played right field, and retired in 2005. He was inducted into the Bull League Hall of Fame on his 4th time on the ballot, in 2013.

Among his contributions to baseball were his six career Grand Slams, including two in one season (1999).

Many thought he would not get the nod, however, to baseball hallowed halls of honor. Though a solid player through his career, he does not hold any team or league records. He ranks only 15th in career home runs among right fielders.

Bats was unavailable for comment on his birthday plans.
