Calgary Nabs Yi for 1 Year Deal

The Calgary Inferno have signed veteran free agent right-hander Yeong-suk Yi to a one-year contract worth $2.6 million.

Free agent signings and trades have been brisk, and Calgary has been fully involved this week, picking up Takahide Higuchi, an international free agent, on Friday, and executing a trade with Arizona last Wednesday that saw the Inferno send Yasuhiro Matsumoto to Arizona for a minor league pitcher.Yi is the latest free agent signing, and pundits believe he would make a good fit in the Calgary rotation. The 30-year-old has frightening velocity on his fastball, and has worked on improving his control recently.

In 2017, he was 5-2 with California, holding a 2.83 ERA, before being traded in July to the Anchorage Aces, where he finished out the season 7-6, with a 3.97 ERA. He debuted in 2010 with the Montreal Metros where he won two Bull Cup rings.
