Arango Handcuffs Christians, Nuclears Seize 1-0 Advantage

The Oceanic Cup got off to a quiet start today, with the traveling Newcastle Nuclears taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the host Christchurch Christians. Newcastle right-hander Sal Arango was marvelous at Plano Fields and was named player of the game. The Nuclears now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Tim Ebeling made it 2-1 in favor of Newcastle when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with one out in the top of the ninth. The Nuclears went on to win.

“Throwing strikes was the main thing,” Arango said.

Game 2 is set to be played on Wednesday, December 28th, 2016 at Plano Fields. The scheduled starters for the game are Rico Fermi for the Nuclears and Inaki-Luki Aulii for the Christians.
