The American Eagle League has announced its three player awards for the month of June. Hot-hitting Danny Sanchez tops the list as Batter of the Month, the Norfolk Sharks infielder had an incredible June and started a hitting streak that is at 18 games and counting.
AEL BATTER OF THE MONTH (JUNE 2017)
Norfolk shortstop Danny ‘Golden Boy’ Sanchez was on a tear in June, hitting .441 with 4 homers and 11 RBIs. His OBP was an impressive .575 as he added 28 walks to his 45 hits. He started a hitting streak on June 12 that is at 18 games and still running. The high performing Sanchez had loads of great games in June, including a 4-for-5 outing against Dallas on June 17, and another 4-for-5 day on June 9 against Jacksonville.
AEL PITCHER OF THE MONTH (JUNE 2017)
Rookie Jose ‘Flinch’ Soto was once again undefeated through June, going 4-0 with a 2.74 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 42.2 innings during his second month of playing in the Bull League. The right-hander, who joined the Anchorage Aces as an undrafted amateur free agent in May, already won the AEL Rookie of the Month in his debut month.
In June, his K/9 also bumped up to 8.6, from 6.8. He is currently 7-0 on the season, with 60 strikeouts in 68 innings.
AEL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH (JUNE 2017)
Gabel Reyes, the sharp-eyed contact-hitting center fielder for the Jacksonville Ravens, impressed scouts and opponents alike through the month of June after launching 8 home runs on the month. He added 24 RBIs and 14 runs while batting .266, and remains one of the top hitting rookies in the AEL. Reyes signed as an undrafted free agent out of Aruba back in November.
