Injury Derails Season for Otomo

It was a blow for Calgary’s Takeo Otomo today — team doctors were able to determine the full extent of his recent injury. He will miss 3 weeks with a strained back muscle. Otomo suffered the injury on Friday. The team will likely place Otomo on the disabled list today.

This season Otomo has delivered 74 hits in 244 at-bats for a .303 average with 18 home runs. He is getting on base at a .352 clip and his totals also include 54 RBIs and 44 runs scored. This year Otomo has played in 61 games.

The Calgary Inferno are in a tight pennant race in the AEL East, with a 34-30 record, and 4 games behind the division leaders, Denver Highlanders. If they are unable to catch Denver, they have to contend with a 3-way battle in the AEL West that could see two teams from that division take the wildcard spots. There are 18 games left in the regular season.
