Rookie manager Larry Meloche has been fired by the Université de Montréal Carabins after a lacklustre 7-9 finish this fall in the Canadian College Baseball Association’s Northern circuit.
Only the Ottawa Gee Gees had a worse outcome this season, finishing 4-12, a full seven games behind division pennant winners, McGill Redmen.
The school announced that another first-time manager, 48-year-old Torontonian Dennis Lurte, would be offered the manager position for the Carabins.
Lurte is said to have a good relationship with some of the Montreal players, including Welland’s Kyle Zaitsoff, who joined this off-season as a backstop and will debut for the club next September.
