There was rain and both from the sky, and from the bats, as the Japan-Korea Conference All-Stars vanquished the Australasian-Oceanic Conference All-Stars in the 2nd annual mid-season classic for the Pacific Rim College League (PRCL), winning 4-0.
Last year, it was the AOC All-Stars who won it, by the same coincidental score. But the Korea Division has been very strong this year, and their talented players served up defeat to the incumbents with 11 hits, including a solo shot in the 4th inning that broke the scoreless deadlock.
The AOC just never found their groove at Seoul’s Sushitown Stadium, where rain swept in during the 2nd inning, adding 40 minutes to the game.
The wet ground didn’t help the defense, either, and both teams totalled 3 errors due to the soggy turf.
Ultimately, it was outfielder James Zulueta who earned the nod as All-Star MVP for his efforts. The 21-year-old from Daegu College was the one to break the 0-0 deadlock in the 4th. He went 1-for-1 with a walk, his only hit being the game’s only home run, a solo shot off Chito Acance of Fiji College, who was tagged with the game’s loss decision.
The winning pitcher was Terrence Lawton of Sapporo College, a freshman with an impressive 2-0 record and 0.79 ERA so far this year.
