College Week #1: Rivermen Top Team, Vermillion Top Player

Assiniboine U Rivermen ascended to the top of the College Weekly Team Power Rankings at the end of Week #1. The Canada Conference team sits atop their conference with a 5-2 (.714) record, and are currently 2nd among college teams in home runs (with 14).

They are backed by a strong bullpen that posted a 2.30 ERA, which was good enough to rank the team 4th. Only one reliever, Chet Shannon, gave up any runs this week. Shannon allowed 4 ER’s over 2 appearances.

David Vermillion (1B) Hispaniola College Conquistadors, was named College Player of the Week for week #1.

The Rivermen have been getting major run support from Steve Banks (1B) who is hitting .304 with 5 homers and 8 RBIs, and Martin Gillespie (DH) who has 3 homers and 4 RBIs, despite struggling with a .250 average.

The College Player of the Week for Week #1 was David Vermillion (1B) of Hispaniola College. The Conquistadors left-handed first baseman went .444 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs, including a player of the game performance against Cape Breton on Feb 25th in which he went 3-for-3 with a home run, RBI and two runs.
