Longhorns Win 3rd Cow League Championship in 10 Years

(GAME DATE — Oct. 27, 2020) — The Toronto Nomads AAA affiliate Brampton Longhorns have won their third Cow League Cup championship since 2010, after dismantling the Thunder Bay Rail Heads in 6 games.

Winnipeg Gophers Take Home Calf Cup

(GAME DATE — Sep. 18, 2020) — The A-level Calf League playoffs wrapped up at the beginning of the month and the Winnipeg Gophers (Seattle Salts) were victorious, taking out the Boston-affiliated Lexington Moonshiners in a 2-0 series sweep.

Despite Winnipeg winning the series, it was Lexington’s right fielder, Harvey Marleau, who was named series MVP. Spokane North Stars Take Home Heifer Cup

(GAME DATE – Sep. 19, 2020) — The AA-level Heifer League playoffs wrapped up recently, and the Minneapolis Ravens’ farm club, the Spokane North Stars, took home the Heifer Cup in a 3-game sweep of the best-of-five finals against the Madison Cyclones, the Boston Brawler’s affiliate.

Right fielder Takaaki Takahashi put in a huge performance in the finals, hitting .364 with 4 home runs and 6 RBIs against the Cyclones, earning the series MVP nod. Continue reading “Spokane North Stars Take Home Heifer Cup”

Rivera Spins Shutout Against Ft. Myers

Today was Tony Rivera’s turn in the rotation for the Ocala Sharks and he made the most of it, shutting out the Ft. Myers Deputies on 4 hits.

The 20-year-old right-hander led the Sharks to an easy 7-0 victory, allowing 1 walk and tallying 7 strikeouts.

“I hope we miss him next time,” Ft. Myers manager Johnny McNeely said. “Rivera certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds.”

In 7 starts this year Rivera has fashioned a 2-4 record and a 3.08 ERA.

Boston’s Slade Throws AAA No-No

(GAME DATE – April 21, 2020) — Veteran right-handed hurler Brett Slade has thrown his first career no-hitter, accomplishing the feat while on the mound for the Halifax Gunboats, the AAA-level Cow League affiliate of the Boston Brawlers.

The 29-year-old, who is known for a nasty slider, went the full 9 innings, throwing 111 pitches, against the Brampton Longhorns, allowing just a single walk and registering 11 strikeouts.

Florida Rookie League Playoff Teams Set

The FRL playoff matchups are set as the season came to a close yesterday. The teams advancing to the postseason include the Miami Motorheads (Detroit) who will face the Daytona Beach Danger (Denver), the Ft. Lauderdale Nomads (Toronto), who are up against the Key largo Oxen (Ohio), the Clearwater Sluggers (Louisville) who will face the Ft Myers Deputies (Dallas), and finally the Tallahassee Storm (Miami) who will square off with the Lakeland Salts (Seattle).

The Deputies held the best record through the FRL season, going 56-28 (.667), but were the top team in their division, the GCL’s Chris Felix Division, at the end of the second half of the season, going 29-13(.690) to tie the Storm, who led the Iron Arm Division.
