Boston Brawlers stalwart Bruce Aberto, the 26-year-old center fielder and two-time Gold Crown Award winner, will be out of action for about six weeks resting a strained oblique, it was learned today.

Montreal Metros GM Danny Desrochers has only been on the job for a day, but he has already sent manager Nick Pettis packing. The firing was announced today, and the team named Scott Stutter as his replacement at the same time.

Baseball’s annual warm-up ritual started on April 1, and by the end of the second day the New York Dragons learned that promising rotation piece Fred Loveless would miss the season. The 28-year-old right-hander, who was 7-4 last year with a 2.09 ERA, and was named Pitcher of the Month for June last season, tore a ligament in the 2nd inning of their April 2 game against Boston.
